Data Protection update

Data Protection update

24th May 2018

Dear Parent / Carers,

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) come into force on the 25th May 2018.  The rules surrounding data protection will undergo their biggest overhaul in decades.

The Governors of the Wey Valley School have reviewed the Data Protection Policy to ensure compliance with GDPR 2018.  Staff have also carried out a data mapping exercise to audit data records, confirm how data is stored, confirm how data is collected and used and to confirm the effect of this on the individuals concerned.

The majority of student data comes from the Admission form when a student starts at the Wey Valley School – this information is consented by parent / carer signature and is held securely on the school’s School Information System (SIMS).  Parents and carers should also visit the school’s privacy notice which outlines how the school manages personal data.

Parents and carers are reminded that student information is accessible via the School Gate Way APP.  The APP provides current information (from SIMS) on student academic performance, attendance, achievement, behaviour and timetable. All parents (and students) are encouraged to download the free School GateWay APP and this can be done by contacting Mrs Kepple on 01305 817002 or by email at

If you have any queries, please contact the school’s Data Protection Officer on 01305 817000 or by email at

Yours sincerely,

Rob Cole
